Your Insurance Rights COMMON THINGS AN INSURANCE COMPANY MIGHT SAY....we recommend that you ask YOUR shop how to combat these statements!  DON'T ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE BULLIED!!!!!!!! -You can choose any shop, but we are only going to pay based on our estimate and you may have to pay the difference! (This is used as a form of "steering" to scare you to their preferred shop!) -That shop is difficult! (This usually means that the shop just won't do what we tell them to do!) --The shop wants to use NEW parts (This one is funny!...Of course, they do...they want to repair the car safely!) -The shop wont accept our estimates! (Some do, Some won't...an insurance estimate is NOT intended to be a blueprint for proper and safe repairs!) -The shop overcharges! (Usually intended to make the shop look bad and "steer" you to a preferred shop) -The shop charges for repairs that aren’t needed! (its against the law to "overcharge" a consumer or "charge" for things not needed...this is called "insurance fraud"...and it's not likely that a shop would intentionally do this...its intent is to scare or intimidate the vehicle owner!) -We don't pay for that! (Whatever it "is" that the insurance company doesn't want to pay for...ask them to put it in writing!) -The shop must work from our estimate! (An insurance estimate should NEVER be used as the starting point of a repair!...Insurance companies don't repair cars!) -The repair will be faster if you go to our "preferred" shop! (This is intended to "steer" you to their contract shop!) -We will "warranty" the repairs if you go to our "preferred" shop! (ALL reputable shops have a nationwide warranty that is equal to or better than an insurance companies warranty!) -You will have to wait for an appraiser if you do NOT go to our "preferred" shop! (This excuse is common.  Insurers recognize that car owners want their property repaired as soon as possible and hope to steer you by creating a delay!) -That shop is NOT on our "list"!  (Intended to make it sound as if your chosen shop was not good enough to be on the "list"...intended to mislead consumers) -That shop is NOT reputable! (We recommend that you ask your friends, family and colleagues for referrals) -The shop has not given us an itemized estimate!  (Some shops bill in dollars rather than hours.  This is a business decision of your chosen repair shop.   Both estimates are "itemized" and both are sufficient for insurance company purposes) Special thanks to “Your Vehicle Your Choice”
